A’s can’t hang with the big boys

After watching the A’s drop their 5th in a row to the Yankees/Red Sox, it makes you wonder if them winning the AL West will even mean anything. It’s one thing to win series against the O’s or Mariners, but if you want to compete you need to knock off the studs. They’ve been playing hard but just don’t have the offense to compare to the better squads. Usually when the A’s put up 6 or 7 runs, that means they’re gonna come out with a W, not in this case. Coming into the year, Oakland was hoping for Daric Barton and Hideki Matsui to be the big bats in the line up. Thus far, they’re batting a putrid .215 (80 for 372 combined) with only 3 home runs. They need to thank Josh Willingham for at least having one fella with double digit dingers. However with all of their problems, they still only stand 5.5 games back of the AL West and Wild Card.

If I had any input , I would definitely go after a bat when the trade deadline comes around. I don’t have input, so we’ll have to wait and see what goes on. I mean, you never know what could happen and for the city of Oakland they need to be assured that the franchise is trying. They’re drawing more fans per game than last year(18,792 in 2011 compared to 17,511 in 2010), so throw them a bone. When you sit back and look at it, they’ve had to suffer through some miserable seasons lately. A’s haven’t seen the playoffs since 2006, Warriors haven’t been there since 2007, and the Raiders, well the Raiders drafted JaMarcus Russell so thats all that needs to be said.

On the bright side of things, the pitching and defense is SOLID. Trevor Cahill is a stud and a lock for the All Star game, when you throw in Brett Anderson and GG (Gio Gonzalez) , you can win a series against a good team if you can score runs!
