UFC 140 HEADLINES AND INSIGHTS

Coming off of UFC 140 a lot of emotions played through my mind. It was an exciting event, but it also left me feeling forlorn for several reasons. Mark Hominick got what he deserved by breaking the unwritten rule of backing up after you shake hands and resetting before you fight. The Korean stun-gun finished him off in 7 seconds, tying the UFC’s quickest knock out and proclaiming to the division that he has arrived. Lil Nog and The Huntington Beach Bad Boy had me on the fence because I like both these fighters, but it was sad to see Tito lose in what could possibly be his last fight in the UFC. I hope Dana lets him finish his contract which has one more fight left on it. Big Nog I was disappointed to see lose since he will always be one of my favorite fighters and I don’t think Frank Mir deserved that win. Mir was in a prone position, on his knees and face, and stunned, exactly like Fedor was in his last fight. The only difference is Mir was actually allowed the chance to recover, unlike Fedor. If Nog would have simply gotten up and walked away, Frank would have been lying there unmoving and I believe the ref would have waved the fight off. The main event was exciting, though I was disappointed that Machida lost after cofounding Bones in the first round and actually showing he was faster. Jones earned that win and so I take my hat off to him.

Notes: Dana has announcing that the UFC will be starting a125 lbs. division and there are rumors circulating that Alistair Ovreem has dropped out of UFC 141 because his mothers battle against cancer has taken a turn for theworst. Frank Mir has offered to replace Overeem for a rubber match against Brock Lesnar.
