The Weekend Ahead…

Chris Bragg May 2, 2012 Comments Off on The Weekend Ahead…

In my eyes, it’s real easy to see why fight fans should be excited about this weekend’s events. There is a little something for everyone, after all.

The Main Event of the weekend is the pay-per-view battle between Boxing’s “Pound-For-Pound King” Floyd Mayweather, Jr. and Miguel Cotto for the WBA (Super) Light Middleweight Title.

What makes this match-up so intriguing is that Mayweather is moving up to 154 lbs to fight the bigger Cotto (Mayweather has stated that he still will not weigh-in any heavier than 150 lbs). Will the undefeated Mayweather succumb to the bigger and stronger Cotto, or will Floyd’s technical superiority prevail?

The Co-Main Event of the pay-per-view features Super Welterweight Champion Saul ‘Canelo’ Alverez taking on veteran ‘Sugar’ Shane Mosely in what promises to be a memorable, if not exciting, showdown.

At 8PM ET/5 PM PT, UFC on FOX 3 hits the airwaves with a free card that will attempt to rebound from the previous lackluster FOX efforts.

Nate Diaz battles Jim Miller for the right to fight the Lightweight Champion, while Josh Koscheck challenges Johny Hendricks in a Welterweight Contender bout.

Rounding out the Main Card is Rousimar Palhares vs. Alan Belcher, and Pat Barry vs. Lavar Johnson.

Bellator 67 goes down Friday Night!

Lightweight Champion Michael Chandler steps into the cage against the dangerous Akihiro Gono. Plus, Ben Saunders and Bryan Baker compete in the Welterweight Tournament’s Semi-Finals.

Oh, and “The Most Exciting Two Minutes in Sports”, The Kentucky Derby, runs Saturday Afternoon also!

The Ultimate Fight Show has you covered, as we preview and predict each of these big events, as well as look back at last weekend’s Bernard Hopkins/Chad Dawson Light Heavyweight Title Fight.
