Strained Hamstring Lands Chris Heisey on DL, Donald Lutz Gets Promoted

chris_heisey_seguutvf_2o6rwh8kAfter leaving the game on April 27th against the Washington Nationals, the Cincinnati Reds were unsure whether a strained right hamstring would land Chris Heisey a spot on the disabled list.

That question was answered this afternoon as the Reds announced that Heisey had been placed on the 15-day DL with the strained hamstring.

In 23 games this season, Heisey is batting .173 with two home runs and five runs batted in.

With that roster move, the Reds promoted Double-A Pensacola first basemen, Donald Lutz. Thru 21 games with the Blue Wahoos, Lutz is batting .211 with five home runs and 14 RBIs. He also has collected four doubles and two triples.

It was speculated that if Heisey was placed on the DL, Lutz would be the likely candidate. Lutz took to twitter this afternoon to thanks those around him.

“I just wanna thank all my family, friends, coaches all over the world for everything they have done for me,” Lutz tweeted. “This is a special day.”

Cincinnati starts a three-game series with St. Louis tonight before traveling to Chicago. When Lutz appears in a game, it will be his first Major League action.
