This Sunday LIVE on PPV will be the 26th annual WWE SummerSlam! A lot of hype has been made for this event and even some great matches seem to have been booked. Will the event live up to the hype? Well as we all know sometimes in wrestling just because it looks good on paper, that doesn’t mean it will turn out that good on TV.
The first match of the night will be done on the WWE Pre-Show on YouTube, WWE.com and multiple other outlets.
WWE United States Championship (SummerSlam Kickoff Pre-show)
Dean Ambrose (c) vs. Rob Van Dam
Winner – Rob Van Dam
I don’t want to see Dean Ambrose lose the United States Championship, but I just don’t think they have done enough with him holding the title. I think Rob Van Dam should bring some excitement to the title like only RVD can. I think no matter who wins or loses we will see a good opening match.
Now onto the meat and bones of the card…
WWE Championship (Triple H as special guest referee)
John Cena (c) vs. Daniel Bryan
Winner – Daniel Bryan
Multiple rumors going around for this match: Triple H is going to turn heel, Daniel Bryan will win the WWE Championship, Randy Orton will cash in his MITB briefcase after the match and John Cena is taking time off after this match. All these rumors do is one thing, promote the match and I like that. Whether we see a Daniel Bryan vs Randy Orton feud the next few months or keep the John Cena vs. Daniel Bryan feud going I think Daniel Bryan will at some point be WWE Champion on Sunday. Whether he walks out champion is another story.
CM Punk vs. Brock Lesnar (with Paul Heyman)
Winner – CM Punk
This is a match everyone wants to see. Basically it will be CM Punk carrying Brock Lesnar. It should be a great fight and all aspects of this feud have been great all summer long. I see CM Punk winning only because Brock will not stick around after SummerSlam. I see Brock getting pissed off and leaving (until WrestleMania). This should be match of the night.
World Heavyweight Championship
Alberto Del Rio (c) vs. Christian
Winner – Christian
While watching the video package on RAW for Christian did anyone else get this feeling Christian is retiring soon? I want to see Christian get one more run with the World Heavyweight Championship, I don’t think Del Rio has been a very good champion and WWE needs to shake it up a bit.
Cody Rhodes vs. Damien Sandow
Winner – Cody Rhodes
How good should this match be? I still don’t understand Damien Sandow being “Mr. MITB” but I see Cody going over strong in this match unless WWE is serious about a Damien Sandow push.
Ring of Fire Match
Kane vs. Bray Wyatt
Winner – Bray Wyatt
This match surprises me. It is basically an “inferno match” without setting your opponent on fire. The Wyatt Family has been hot (no pun intended) since their debut, even since their time on NXT, so I see Bray Wyatt winning this match.
Mixed Tag Team Match
Dolph Ziggler and Kaitlyn vs. Big E Langston and AJ Lee
Winners – Dolph Ziggler & Kaitlyn
What a crazy summer it has been for all 4 of these superstars. All I know coming out of this match is that I want to see Kaitlyn vs. AJ in a Street Fight at Night of Champions and want to see Dolph Ziggler back in the World Heavyweight Championship or WWE Championship title picture ASAP!
Natalya (with The Funkadactyls (Cameron and Naomi)) vs. Brie Bella (with Eva Marie and Nikki Bella)
Winner – Brie Bella
The Bella Twins are basically the face of the divas division due to the success of Total Divas. I see some twin magic happening in this match to give Brie Bella the win over the incredibly talented Natalya! Maybe Natalya can get retribution and a win on RAW in a rematch.
Tune into WWE SummerSlam to find out the winners and what big moments will go down. I will follow up with the results and my predictions this Monday in my “This Week In Wrestling” column. Until then…
