The left-hander heads to LA after being designated for assignment last week.
The Los Angeles Dodgers have acquired left-hander Colt Hynes from the Cleveland Indians for minor league right-hander Duke von Schamann, according to a team announcement. The Dodgers added Hynes to their 40-man roster and designated Mike Baxter for assignment.
Hynes, 28, was designated for assignment by the Indians at the end of spring training so that the team could add non-roster invitees to their 40-man roster. The southpaw returns to the NL West, where made his major league debut last season with the Padres. In 22 games for San Diego last year, Hynes posted a 9.00 ERA in 17 innings of work before being purchased by the Indians in late October. He will head to Triple-A Albuquerque in the Dodgers’ system, serving as left-handed relief depth as the season gets underway.
von Schamann, 22, was the Dodgers’ 15th round pick in the 2012 draft and split last season between High-A Rancho Cucamonga and Double-A Chattanooga. He was 11-7 with a 4.67 ERA in 27 appearances (23 starts) in his first full professional season, and is not considered to be much more than organizational depth. He will head to Double-A Akron in the Indians’ system.
