Cleveland Browns fans had to wait longer than they thought, but they got their wish when Johnny Manziel joined the team last night at the NFL Draft.
The former Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback from Texas A&M was available at No. 4, but the Browns instead traded down to No. 9, acquiring the Buffalo Bills’ first and fourth picks next year.
Cleveland traded up one spot to No. 8, grabbing cornerback Justin Gilbert from Oklahoma State.
The Browns still had the No. 26 pick from last year’s Trent Richardson deal with the Indianapolis Colts. Cleveland gave up a third-round pick move up to No. 22 and Manziel was still there for the taking.
Will he succeed where Brady Quinn and Brandon Weeden failed? They were both drafted with the No. 22 pick as well. Hopefully, the Browns will not place the entire team on his shoulders, so he can succeed at his own pace.
