The Maryland Terrapins played perhaps their best game of the season whipping the Northwestern Wildcats 73-57 at an ecstatic Xfinity Center.
They started fast and never trailed led by super sophomore Kevin Huerter who scored a game-high 22 points on seven of 12 shooting from the floor and helping Maryland improve to ( 17-10, 6-8 Big Ten ).
He also had five assists and four rebounds while nailing three of seven three pointers.
His fellow super sophomore Anthony Cowan Jr. ran the offense well and finished with 16 points, seven rebounds and four assists.
Maryland started four guards and Dion Wiley and Darryl Morsell also shinned for the Terps.
Wiley, a red-shirt junior had perhaps his best game as a Terrapin. Know as a three-point shooter, he filled up the stat sheet with 10 points, five rebounds and four assists.
Morsell had 14 points a team-high nine rebounds and four assists and played his best game in his first season with Maryland.
Maryland jumped out to 17-8 lead at the 15:28 mark of the first half with a hot Huerter scoring 12 of the points.
A Jared Nickens three made the score 22-10 with 10:53 to go before the break.
A Cowan jumper gave Maryland a 32-16 advantage with 5:46 to go but the Wildcats rallied and cut the Terps lead to 36-29 at the half.
Maryland started the second half on a 7-0 run and with the score 43-29 they never looked back.
The Terps were in control the entire game and a Cowan three made the score 54-44 with 11:38 to play in the game.
That was later followed by a Morsell jumper that gave Maryland 60-46 lead at the 7:43 mark of the second half.
The Terps had their largest lead at 68-47 on another Morsell make with 3:45 to go and cruised to a satisfying Big Ten victory.
Maryland shot 53 percent from the field and hit nine of 21 threes making seven of 14 in the first frame.
They also made 10 of 11 free throws and out rebounded the Wildcats 29-26.
Their defense was stellar holding Northwestern to 33 percent shooting from the floor and held the Wildcats senior guard Bryant McIntosh scoreless for the first time in his career.
They also had seven blocks and six steals.
Northwestern sank 10 of 13 free throws and nine of 24 three pointers.
Northwestern was led by Scottie Lindsey with 20 points and Dererk Pardon who scored 12 points and snatched a team-high eight rebounds for the ( 15-11, 6-7 ) Wildcats.
