U18 defenseman Fensore commits; Mastrosimone shines at Battle of Boston

BU strengthened its pipeline of future defensemen when NTDP U18 blueliner Domenick Fensore committed to the Terriers. Fensore, a 5’7”, 155 lb., left shot from Thornwood, N.Y., who previously had been committed to Quinnipiac, is the second recruit secured since Albie O’Connell took the reins as head coach.

Look for Fensore to end up at Boston University. He will be a terrific puck-moving offensive defenseman for the Terriers. https://t.co/FsZNyGm2wo

Possessing “explosive skating” and strong passing skills, Fensore scored 31 points (2G, 29A) in 61 games for the U17s last season. In 2016-17, he scored 83 points with the PAL Junior Islanders, including 27 in 23 USPHL games. That spring he was invited to the NTDP Evaluation Camp and earned a roster spot on Team USA. SBNation reported:

Pay no attention to his height. His footwork and skating are so good he can overcome that. He retrieves pucks, breaks the puck out of the zone and acts as a fourth forward. His gaps and layers are good. He has a good shot and is a prototypical modern era puck transporter.

Fensore becomes the fourth member of this season’s U18s headed to BU, joining fellow blueliners Case McCarthy and Alex Vlasic, and center Trevor Zegras. The U18s will visit Agannis Arena on October 19 for an exhibition game against the Terriers.

Looking ahead

2019 recruit Robert Mastrosimone dominated the U20 tournament at the Battle of Boston, scoring 20 points (8g,12A) in five games for Hockey Essentials. The forward from East Islip, N.Y., scored five points—including a hat trick–in the tournament final. Following the USA Hockey Select 17, Mastrosimone was named to the US Select U18 roster, along with 2020 recruit Cade Webber, for the Hlinka-Gretzky CupTournament in Edmonton in August 6.
