In case you have not heard, Albert is back on the active roster for the St. Louis Cardinals and they are hot!!
The Birds are playing good baseball and for the first time since early in the season, they are relatively healthy(save Wainwright who is out for the season).
Albert is back, David Freese is back, Nick Punto is back, Matt Holiday, who has been on the DL twice is DEFINITELY back and
back up catcher Martin Laird and relief pitcher Eduardo Sanchez are both due to be re-activated. This is looking good for the Cardinals.
Their starting pitching has been outstanding as late as well with a fine performance by Jaimie Garcia against the
Reds on Tuesday night and another lights out performance by Chris Carpenter the night before. Carpenter has been outstanding in his last 4 starts
and is really looking like the stopper that the Cardinals needed.
All of this was needed and it happened and now the Birds find themselves back in 1st place in the NL Central and who is that right behind them?? The Pittsburgh Pirates?? WOW!! Good for them.
The Pirates are in 2nd place and 3 games OVER .500 in July. This is the first time for this in many years and I say good for them and baseball. We need to see these so called ‘small market’ teams thrive as they are the Pirates, the Brewers, the Reds and even the Cardinals, although St. Louis has never struggled to put a good team on the field or struggled at the gates.
Good time for the Cards to get ‘hot’ and ‘healthy’ as they see the Reds again tonight, then after the Diamondbacks, will see the Reds, Mets and then the much improved Pirates.
