Birds bow to Brewers

Missed opportunities by the Cardinals again cost the Cardinals a game against the first place Milwaukee Brewers in extra innings at Busch Stadium as the Brewers beat the Birds 5-3.
Extra innings games and close games are the games that teams need to win if they are going to win their division in the major leagues.
The Birds had some opportunities but had a close play at the plate where Skip Schumaker was called out at the plate in the 6th inning and Albert Pujols left two men that were in scoring position on base  late in the game.
The Cardinals just cannot seem to catch the Brewers as the Brewers have now won five games in a row and move to four games up on the Cardinals in the NL Central.

Wednesday nights game will showcase starters Randy Wolf (8-8) vs. the Cardinals’ Jake Westbrook (9-5) at Busch. The two teams meet again on Thursday night with the Brewers sending Yovani Gallardo (13-7) up against the Cardinals Chris Carpenter (7-8).  These are becoming very important games as these two teams are going to be the teams that will decide the division winner.  The Cardinals face the Brewers eight more times this season and need to win the majority of those remaining games to have a chance to win the NL Central
