Again we see an escalating rivalry between the St. Louis Cardinals and the Milwaukee Brewers last night as the Birds beat the Brewers 2-0.
These are two NL Central teams that are becoming big rivals as they again are competing
for the division title.
Last night, Chris Carpenter tossed a vintage Carp game, shutting out the Brewers on 4 hits.
This seemed to have annoyed Brewers centerfielder Nyjer Morgan as Morgan struck out in the ninth inning and seemed to have lost his cool, and tried to start a confrontation with Carpenter by tossing his chewing tobacco out towards the pitching mound. Carpenter had turned his back looking for the ball as the ball was tossed around the infield and for some reason, Morgan lost control and started a rant at
Carpenter, which the Cardinal players did not appreciate. A bench clearing meeting followed resulting in Morgan getting tossed from the game as he should have, and both benches and Carpenter getting warned. This was interesting, because Carpenter had not done ANYTHING.
For some reason, Morgan had been ‘communicating’ with the St. Louis Cardinals’
fans the entire game and making unusual gyrations and talking to the people in the stands. This all seemed to be uncalled for and somewhat comical really.
What is going on with that guy??
Another interesting aspect of this is how the Milwaukee press has been offering some odd information about some of the idiosyncricies
of manager Tony LaRussa and the St. Louis Cardinals. It sure seems the Cardinals get this a lot from other cities, like Cincinnati, which comes to mind.
This win puts the Cardinals back in the hunt for a Wild card spot with the Atlanta Braves losing their third game in a row as they lost a close one to Philadelphia.
Now the Braves will meet the Cardinals and the Brewers meet the Phillies. So, don’t count the Cardinals out just yet. This is a big weekend for
the Cardinals and the Braves.
More Birds/Brewers Brew haha
