LA Galaxy v Real Madrid August 2 At Home Depot Center

Soccer Section May 8, 2012 Comments Off on LA Galaxy v Real Madrid August 2 At Home Depot Center

For the third consecutive year, Real Madrid will be conducting part of their 2012/13 pre-season preparations in the U.S., and that means for the third consecutive year that we will have a LA Galaxy v Real Madrid match.

The defending MLS Cup champions will play the recently crowned La Liga champions on Thursday August 2nd at The Home Depot Center.

Interesting that they are playing at the Home Depot Center instead of the LA Coliseum or the Rose Bowl, where the two clubs have met the last two seasons.

When the two sides met in 2010, Real Madrid won 3-2 in front of 89,134 at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena. Last year, Madrid won 4-1 last in front of 56,211 at the Los Angeles Coliseum. The Home Depot Center only holds 27,000 so this will be one of the hottest tickets this summer.

Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho really likes conducting part of his pre-seaon training in the U.S. The Real players appeared to enjoy their time at the Beverly Hills Hotel while Mourinho likes the fields at UCLA where they train.

With the European Championships this summer, it will be interesting to see what Real Madrid players play against the Galaxy. The Euros end in early July, giving them several weeks to relax before heading to LA for pre-season. I would expect Kaka and Higuain to lead the team against the Galaxy plus some players who countries got knocked out of the Euro’s early.

The WFC match will come between two difficult regular-season road contests for the Galaxy against Western Conference rivals FC Dallas (July 28) and Seattle Sounders (Aug. 5).
