The soaring Baltimore Orioles took three of four from the Detroit Tigers before an ecstatic crowd at Oriole Park at Camden Yards.
The Orioles were coming off of a short series sweep of the Minnesota Twins where they set a franchise record by hitting back to back homers in three straight games which included the final game of the Oakland series.
After winning the first three games of the series the Birds were riding their second seven game winning streak of the season and were up 5-4 in the eighth inning of game four and needed six outs for a series sweep.
But unfortunately it was not meant to be. Usually reliable reliever Darren O’Day surrendered back to back homers to give the Tigers a 6-5 lead.
The Orioles, who lead Major League Baseball with 13 come from behind wins this season, could not make it 14 and the Tigers game winning rally was complete.
The first game of the series, a 7-5 Baltimore victory, saw the Birds rally from a 5-0 deficit.
Down 5-0 in the sixth, they scored two runs in the bottom of the inning and came back with five more runs in the seventh inning to secure the feel-good victory.
After pinch hitter Pedro Alvarez tied the game with a single, Jonathan Schoop hit the first triple of his career down the right field line which drove in two runs and gave the Orioles a 7-5 late inning lead.
Schoop finished the game 2 for 4 with three RBIs and Chris Davis went 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs.
Starter Ubaldo Jimenez struggled, giving up nine hits, five runs while walking four and striking out two in five innings of work.
The bullpen came in and shutout the Tigers and closer Zach Britton ended it with his ninth save of the season.
In the second game of the series, a 1-0 Baltimore victory, the Orioles were led by starter Chris Tillman and All-Star Adam Jones.
Tillman pitched seven innings, striking out seven while giving up five hits and two bases on balls. He now has a team-leading (5-1) record and lowered his ERA to 2.58.
Meanwhile, Jones blasted his 200th career home run in the sixth inning to give Tillman all the support he needed.
O’Day kept the Tigers off the board in the eighth and closer Britton came in to make it 10 out of 10 in save opportunities this season.
In the third game of the season, a 9-3 Baltimore win, the Orioles slugged four more homers, two by the red-hot Schoop, which included a grand slam in the eighth inning to put the game out of reach. Schoop ended the game 2 for 3 with five RBIs.
Matt Wieters went 1 for 4 with two RBIs, and his two-run homer in the sixth gave his team a 3-2 lead.
Meanwhile, starter Mike Wright (2-3, 5.20 ERA) came back from a 2-0 deficit to pitch seven innings, striking out six and allowing three hits and walking three.
Reliever Brad Brach came in to pitch the final two innings. He struck out three and allowed two hits and one run.
Baltimore ended the series with a record of (23-13) and are tied for first in the A. L. East division with the Boston Red Sox who have a record of (24-14).
