
The Washington Commanders got offensive in their rookie quarterbacks homecoming clipping the wings of the Arizona Cardinals 42-14 much to the chagrin of the 63,286 at the gridiron called State Farm Stadium.
Washington was led again by their rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels who has adjusted well to playing in a prostyle-offense and working with former Cardinals coach and Commanders offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury.
The six-foot-four Daniels played three seasons at Arizona State and finished the game going 26 of 30 for 233 yards to nine different receivers with one touchdown and his first NFL interception. As a dual threat he also rushed for 47 yards on eight carries scoring one touchdown.
He is doing well in his NFL rookie year. In the month of September, he has completed 87 of 106 attempts for 897 yards. He has thrown for three touchdowns with one pick and has an NFL third best 107.4 passer rating.
He also became the fourth quarterback in the Super Bowl era to run for four touchdowns in his first four career games.
The Commanders were led in rushing by Brian Robinson Jr. who had 21 carries for 101 yards and one touchdown. Jeremy McNichols, playing because Austin Ekeler is out with a concussion, was also productive on the ground running for 68 yards on eight carries and scoring two touchdowns.
The six-foot-one Robinson had a good month of September rushing for 307 yards on 66 carries and averaged 4.7 yards per carry.
Olamide Zaccheaus led the team in receptions with six for 85 yards. Terry McLaurin was right behind him catching seven passes for 52 yards and one touchdown.
Washington is on a three-game winning streak improving to (3-1) good for first place in the NFC East Division.
The Cardinals began the scoring with a Kyler Murray two-yard touchdown pass to rookie Marvin Harrison Jr. making the score 7-0 with 9:54 to go in the first quarter.
Washington countered with a Robinson six-yard scoring run making the score 7-7 with 5:13 to go in the first quarter.
In the second quarter McNichols had a 27-yard touchdown run tap dancing along the left sideline giving Washington a 14-7 advantage with 10:18 to go in the second quarter. They also added an Austin Seibert 45-yard field goal taking a 17-7 lead into the halftime break.
A Daniels nine-yard scoring run made the score 24-7 with 13:52 to go in the third quarter and Seibert added on a 38-yard field goal widening the Washington lead to 27-7 with 5:16 to play in the third quarter.
Since joining the Commanders Seibert has not missed a kick or extra point and is tied for third in scoring in the NFL with 39 points.
The Cardinals countered with a James Conner six-yard touchdown run making the score 27-14 with 11 seconds to play in the third quarter.
Washington put the game away in the fourth quarter with a McLaurin 10-yard scoring reception and a McNichols seven-yard scoring run making the score 42-14 with 4:30 to go in the game.
Washington led the game in many categories including total yards 449 to 296 and Time of Possession 33:22 to 26:38. The Commanders had 29 first downs to 17 for the Cardinals.
The Washington defense, which recorded four sacks, was led by linebacker Bobby Wagner who finished with 11 tackles and safety Jeremy Chinn was right behind him with 10 tackles, including seven solo tackles.
Arizona was led in passing by Murray who went 16 for 22 for 142 yards and one touchdown. Conner led them in rushing with 104 yards on 18 carries and one touchdown and Harrison was their leading receiver catching five of six targets for 45 yards and one touchdown in a losing effort for the (1-3) Cardinals.
