u-marylandThe Maryland Terrapins, beat the Bowie State University Bulldogs 89-47 to finish 2-0 in exhibition games as they prepare for the 2014-15 basketball season at Xfinity Center.

Terps junior Jake Layman led all scorers with 18 points, shooting a blazing seven for eight from the field. Four-star freshman recruit Dion Wiley from Oxon Hill Md. finished with 13 points and senior Dez Wells contributed 11 points in limited action.

Maryland senior Jon Graham led the way with a team-high 11 rebounds and scored eight points. The tune-up game like the 86-52 victory over San Francisco State was a good opportunity for the Terrapins to play against someone other than their teammates in practice.

The game also gave Maryland fans another opportunity to get a look at the top-10 recruiting class that was brought in by coach Mark Turgeon.

7-1 freshman forward Michal Cekovsky, who struggled during the San Francisco game, appeared more confident and finished the game with four points, five rebounds and two assists in 22 minutes of play. Cekovsky, from Slovakia, was rated as a four-star prospect, and the sixth best power forward according to 247sports.com. He also had offers from powerhouse schools Arizona and Lousiville.

Freshman guard Melo Trimble scored eight points and had five assists. Trimble, who is expected to start with the departure of former Terp guard Seth Allen, who transferred to Virginia Tech, was rated as the #1 prospect in the state of Maryland and was also a McDonalds All-American.

Another freshman, Jared Nickens, a four-star guard from New Jersey, chipped in with 12 points. Newcomer Richaud Pack, a redshirt senior from North Carolina AT&T, where he averaged 17 points, scored seven points.

The Terps led the entire game against the Division II Bulldogs, and a Wells assist to Layman for a dunk made the score 30-7 with 8:07 to play in the first half.

The halftime score was 48-15. The Bulldogs were 4-34 in the first half, while the Terrapins shot over 60 percent from the field in the first half.

The Bulldogs doubled their first half total, scoring 32 points in the second half. Maryland shot 57.8 percent for the game, while Bowie State shot 22.2 percent for the game.

Maryland out rebounded their instate foe from Bowie, Md. 45-29.

The Bulldogs were led in scoring by guard Justin Beck who had 10 points. He also collected a team-high six rebounds. Forward Andre Jackson chipped in with nine points for the Bulldogs.
