The Washington Redskins rallied late to beat the Los Angeles Rams 27-20 at the Los Angeles Memorial  Coliseum.

The Redskins, who never trailed in the game, let the Rams tie the contest at 20-20 with 7:21 to play in the game.

After losing two 10-point leads the Redskins (1-1)  drove 70 yards in 10 plays and finished the winning drive on an 11-yard scoring pass from quarterback Kirk Cousins to Ryan Grant with 1:55 to go.

The Rams had one last chance but if was extinguished by a Redskin interception.

Cousins was 18 for 27 for 179 yards and one touchdown.

Washington won the game on the ground as they rushed for 229 yards and averaged nearly six yards per attempt.

Rob Kelley led the charge with 78 yards on 12 carries. He had to leave the game due to a leg injury in the second quarter.

Washington running back Chris Thompson gained 77 yards on three carries including scoring runs of 61 and seven yards.

Rookie Samaje Perine, who replaced Kelley, was effective and ran for 67 yards on 21 carries.

Washington started strong with field goals of 41 and 22 yards sandwiched around Thompson’s seven yard TD scamper and had a 13-0 lead with 12:10 to go before halftime.

The Rams rallied to make the score 13-10 on a one-yard TD run and a 32-yard field goal with 3:07 to go before the break.

The Redskins responded with Thompson’s 61-yard scoring burst up the middle to take a 20-10 lead at the half.

But the Rams would not go away and countered with an 18-yard scoring strike and a 40-yard field goal to tie the game at 20-20 with 7:21 setting up the exciting finish.

Jordan Reed led the Washington receiving attack catching six passes for 48 yards. Jamison Crowder had four receptions for 47 yards.

Washington won the time of possession 36:19 to 23:41 and has 21 first downs to 14 for the Rams. They also out gained Los Angeles 385 to 332 yards.

Los Angeles quarterback Jared Goff was 15 for 25  for 224 yards with one touchdown and one interception.

Todd Gurley II led their rushing attack with 88 yards on 16 carries and one touchdown.

Gerald Everett had three catches for 95 yards and Gurley had three receptions for 48 yards and one touchdown in a losing effort for the ( 1-1) Rams.
