The Washington Redskins dominated the Philadelphia Eagles, winning 27-20 before a delighted crowd at Fed Ex Field.

The score did not reflect the whipping the Redskins put on the Eagles. Washington (4-2) out gained them 493 yards to 239 and had 26 first downs compared to 12 for Philly. Washington had the ball for 34:13 nearly ten more minutes than the Eagles who had the ball for 25:47.

Were it not for an 86-yard kickoff return and a 64-yard pick six both second quarter touchdowns which tied the score at 14-14 the game would not have been close.

The Redskins defense and running game were the real stars for Washington.

Running back Matt Jones had a career-best 135 yards on 16 carries including a 57-yard run on third and seven with 1:27 to go to seal their fourth straight victory.

The Redskins finished with a staggering 230 yards rushing while holding the Eagles to 94 yards on the ground. Rookie Robert Kelly ran for 59 yards on five carries and third down back Chris Thompson finished the game with 37 yards on nine carries.

Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins was 18 for 34 for 263 yards with two touchdowns and one interception.

He showed some maturity by not allowing the pick-six to get him rattled. He calmly drove the team down the field on their next drive which resulted in a Jones touchdown making the score 21-14 at the break.

Meanwhile, the defense was stellar holding Eagle’s quarterback and rookie sensation Carson Wentz to 11 for 22 for 179 yards and no touchdowns.

The Eagles were shutout in the third quarter and were limited to two fourth quarter field goals in the second half.

Still, Philadelphia had the ball with 4:05 to play and a chance to tie the game.

With third and 15 at the Eagles 49-yard line the Redskins sacked Wentz, one of their five on the day and forced the Eagles to punt on fourth and 24 with less than two minutes to go. Ryan Kerrigan led the defense with two sacks.

Thanks to the Washington offensive line and Jones late game burst they never got the ball back.

Washington was led in receiving by Pierre Garcon who had six receptions for 77 yards. DeSean Jackson had four catches for 55 yards and dropped a sure touchdown in the end zone.

Jamison Crowder had three catches for 52 yards including the first Washington touchdown of the day giving them an early 7-0 lead.

Veteran Vernon Davis, a former Maryland Terrapin, started for the injured Jordan Reed who was out with a concussion. He had two catches for 50 yards including his first Washington touchdown.

Philadelphia was  led in rushing by Robert Matthews who gained 60 yards on nine carries and in receiving by Jordan Matthews who had three receptions for 75 yards in a losing effort for the (3-2) Eagles.
