The Baltimore Orioles took two of three from the Arizona Diamondbacks, split a rain-shortened series with the Toronto Blue Jays and took two of three from the Seattle Mariners much to the delight of the home fans at Oriole Park at Camden Yards.
Baltimore finished the series with a record of (29-15) as they battle the New York Yankees for first place in the hotly contested AL East Division.
The first game with the D-Backs a 4-2 Baltimore win, saw the O’s score two in the second on a Jordan Westburg double and a Cedric Mullins ground out. Arizona got one back in the third and a single by Baltimore’s Ryan O’Hearn in the fifth made the score 3-1. Arizona countered with a run in the sixth and a double by Gunnar Henderson in the seventh gave us the finishing score.
Orioles starter Cole Irvin struck out six and allowed five hits, two runs and one walk in 5.2 innings of work. He improved to (4-1) with a 2.90 ERA. The bullpen tossed a shutout and Yennier Cano earned his second save.
The middle game of the series was highlighted by an 11th inning walk-off single by Westburg giving Baltimore a thrilling 5-4 win. Arizona avoided a sweep winning the series finale, 9-2.
The Blue Jays won a 10th inning affair 3-2 and the middle game was a rainout.
That set up some big-time heroics in the series finale a 3-2 Baltimore win. The Orioles losing 2-1 going into the ninth and having left 11 men on base the game seemed to not be going the O’s way.
But Baltimore was not to be denied as Westburg began the game with a leadoff homer and Adley Rutschman ended the game with a walk off two-run ninth inning homer just making it over the flag court in right field and the fans went crazy.
The Orioles won the first game against Seattle 9-2 jumping all over the Mariners with 5 in the first including Henderson’s 13th homer of the season. Colton Cowser finished 2 for 3 with two RBI and collected his 10th double of the season. Rutschman went 2 for 4 with one RBI and Henderson went 2 for 5 with two RBI.
Starter John Means allowed six hits while striking out four and surrendering two runs in six innings of work. He improved to (2-0) with a 3.06 ERA.
The Mariners won the middle game of the series 4-3 but Baltimore bounced back with a series clinching 6-3 win.
Henderson led off with his 15th homer of the year. He finished 2 for 4 with one RBI. O’Hearn slugged his sixth homer of the year going 1 for 4 with one RBI. Mullins went 2 for 4 with two RBI. the Red-Hot Henderson homered in each game of the series.
Orioles starter Corbin Burnes was just nasty striking out 11 Seattle batters. He allowed six hits, one walk and one run in six innings of work. He improved to (4-2) with a 2.41 ERA.
