The Washington Commanders withstood a late New York rally beating the Giants 27-22 before a disappointed 77,994 fans at MetLife Stadium.

The Commanders had a comfortable 24-10 led heading into the fourth quarter but the Giants would not fall easily.

They scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter while Washington added a field goal. Fortunately, the Giants failed on their two two-point tries and the Commanders held on to a divisional win while improving to (7-2) and riding a three-game winning streak as leaders in the NFC East Division.

Washington rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels led the way completing 15 of 22 passes for 209 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed for 35 yards on eight carries.

Chris Rodriguez Jr. called up to play for the injured Brian Robinson Jr. made the most of his chance leading Washington in rushing with 52 yards on 11 carries.

His teammate Austin Ekeler had 11 carries for 42 yards and one touchdown.

Noah Brown, last week’s hero catching the “Hail Mary” touchdown pass in the dramatic win over the Bears, led the Washington receivers with five catches for 60 yards.

Terry McLaurin was Daniels favorite goal line guy with his two catches being scoring passes for a total of 19 yards.

Washington kicked off the scoring with a one-yard touchdown pass to McLaurin making the score 7-0 with 7:04 to go in the first quarter.

The Giants countered with a two-yard scoring pass from quarterback Daniel Jones to Chris Manhertz knotting the score at 7-7 with 12:21 to go in the second quarter.

Washington responded with an Ekeler one-yard touchdown run making the score 14-7 with 6:21 to go in the second half.

And then added on with a McLaurin 18-yard scoring strike making the score 21-7 at the half.

In the third quarter the teams exchanged 31-yard field goals making the score 24-10 and setting up the exciting finish.

Like the score the team stats were close. Wahington had 21 first downs to 25 for the Giants but the Commanders had 358 total yards to 326 for New York. Washington had 149 rushing yards to 164 for the Giants.

Safety Jeremy Chinn led the Commanders defense in tackles with 13 including two TFLs. Linebacker Bobby Wagner had seven tackles, and a recovered fumble and linebacker Dante Fowler Jr. had six tackles including two sacks.

Jones led New York in passing going 20 for 26 for 174 yards and two touchdowns. He also had seven carries for 54 yards and a touchdown. Tyrone Tracy Jr. led their rushing attack with 66 yards on 16 carries and Malik Nabers was their leading receiver with nine catches for 59 yards in a losing effort for the (2-7) Giants.
