
The Maryland Terrapins demolished the Iowa Hawkeyes 101-75 setting a program record for most points scored in a Big Ten conference game much to the delight of the 15,681 students and fans at an ecstatic Xfinity Center.
The Terps put on an offensive clinic. The starters scored 95 points.
Every starter scored in double figures led by Ja’Kobi Gillespie who finished with a team-high 26 points on 11-14 shooting from the floor. He was 4-7 on three-pointers while handing out seven assists, grabbing five rebounds and finishing with three steals.
6-foot-10 freshman sensation Derik Queen had a double-double of 18 points and 13 rebounds. JuJu Reese joined him in the double-double column with 16 points and 12 rebounds.
Guard Rodney Rice contributed 18 points, and four assists and fellow guard Selton Miguel rounded out the starter scoring with 17 points while dishing out five assists helping the Terps improve to (20-6, 10-5 Big Ten).
Both teams came out firing in the first half with each team finishing with over 56 percent shooting from the floor in the first half with Iowa taking a 51-47 halftime lead.
Each team also shot over 57 percent from the three-point line in the first half, but the second half was a whole different story.
The Hawkeyes went 0-13 from three-point land and were outscored by Maryland by a whopping 54-24 in the second half.
Maryland shot a staggering 58 percent from the floor and were 46 percent shooting from beyond the arc.
They also won the rebounding battle 42-29.
Maryland made 11-13 free throws while Iowa was 5-6 from the charity stripe. They also held the Hawkeyes to 43 percent shooting from the floor while limiting them to 8-27 shooting from beyond the arc.
Iowa was led in scoring by the Sandfort brothers Pryce and Payton who finished with 15 and 14 points with Payton leading the way with 10 rebounds in a losing effort for the (14-11, 5-9) Hawkeyes.
