Tonite is the opening night of the “Ohio Baseball Weekly” show. It’s been a disturbingly quiet winter for both the Cincinnati Reds and the Cleveland Indians. So how much can each team improve?
The Indians are looking to go further this season than the Wild Card Game. Ubaldo Jiminez and Scott Kazmir are gone. David Murphy replaces Drew Stubbs in Right. Meanwhile the Reds are under the guidance of a new manager in #Bryan Price. Speedy Billy Hamilton is expected to propel the Reds lineup into a run scoring machine. But can he handle the pressure as a highly anticipated rookie? Bronson Arroyo is gone, so the load falls onto lefty Tony Cingrani.
This is year four Mark Donahue and I have been doing the show, and last season was the first both clubs made the playoffs. This year will be the most exciting and promising. Not only do both teams expect to be a winner in 2014, but our show is stepping up it’s game also.
This year we will accept phone calls, along with the usual tweets and emails. We also will expand our “Ask Us” segment to include phone calls. Last year our listening base was coast to coast, showing the Reds and Indians still have fans world wide. We invite you to call us, email us or tweet us. Let us know your questions about the teams or baseball in general.
We will be including more interviews and team soundbites throughout the year. Tonite Mark and I will discuss the moves both teams made, or lack thereof. As always pitching is the great equalizer, so during the next three weeks in Arizona both are looking to solidify that part of their team and make sure they have replacements in case of injuries.
Tonite’s show begins at 9pm and will be every Monday evening until the end of the season. The weather is breaking and baseball is close. We hope you join us all season long.
