Walt JocketyWith the All Star break behind them, the Cincinnati Reds are ready to make changes. According to sources, the Reds are poised to make a “major announcement” within the next 72 hours regarding their organization.

Those same sources are pointing to the announcement being the release of General Manager Walt Jocketty. Jocketty was hired as a Special Adviser to the Cincinnati Reds in January, 2008. He was elevated to the GM post after Wayne Krivsky was fired in April of that same year.

Jocketty has been under fire for his inability to make moves that would progress the Reds into a championship contender. He also has been criticized for the contracts he negotiated with Joey Votto, Homer Bailey and Brandon Phillips, which have hamstrung the organization in regards to salary.

No word on who would replace Jocketty as GM. The trade deadline is 3 weeks away, and rumors persist the team is looking to unload Johnny Cueto, Phillips and Jay Bruce.
