Pro Wrestling Journey: Hurricane Pro Return to Beaumont

Greg Mitchell January 24, 2022 Comments Off on Pro Wrestling Journey: Hurricane Pro Return to Beaumont

Admittedly, I am not familiar with Hurricane Pro. I found out about this event from Ivelisse on her Twitter feed. Anytime Ivelisse wrestles, I always do my best to try to find the show to support her. She is one of the best in the game. Period. This show was available on Title Match Network.

Hurricane Pro Tag Team Championship Match
The Born Haters vs Blue Collar Krew (c)

Pre-Match Comments: Neither of these teams look like very much. I’m really expecting this match to be a dud. But if I had to put money on a team being better than the other, it would be Blue Collar Krew. They look to be the most in-shape and actually appear to be able to pull off some wrestling moves. I hope I’m wrong. There are guys like El Gringo Loco that don’t look like much at first, but he can do things in the ring that very few human beings can pull off. I’m going to try to watch this with an open mind and hope for the best.

Blue Collar Krew won via pinfall to retain the titles.

Post-Match Thoughts: Nope. My initial gut feelings were right. There were a couple of good spots, but overall, the match was very clumsy. I’m not a professional wrestler, so I’m sure it’s not as easy as it looks, but this match needed a lot more direction to clean it up. I also have to say that if someone is supposed to be a “strong” wrestler but can barely lift his opponent, it may be time to find a different move set!

Overall Match Rating: Skip It!

Prince Ahmed vs Don Rodrigo

Pre-Match Comments: Ahmed immediately looks so much better than the last four wrestlers combined. His mask looks like one of the discarded masks that Michael Myers must have made in Rob Zombie’s Halloween. But other than that, he looks legit. Just when I thought the match was likely to be better, Don Rodrigo and The Born Haters are back out here for this one. I sure hope Don Rodrigo is better than The Born Haters. That’s all I can say.

Don Rodrigo won via submission.

Post-Match Thoughts: Well, the match was better than the last one. I was really surprised how slow the match went. I expected Rodrigo and Ahmed’s styles to be more lucha influenced based on their ring gear and how they presented themselves in the ring, but it was anything but lucha libre. That’s not a bad thing, just surprising. I probably wouldn’t watch this match again but would give both wrestlers another opportunity to prove they were worth watching. Still going to rate this a Skip It, but without the exclamation point so you know it was better than the last match.

Overall Match Rating: Skip It

No Disqualification Match
Tama Ku vs Jordan Jensen

Pre-Match Comments: Oh, yes please! Tama Ku looks great. His entrance is cool. Please let this match be good!

Tama Ku won via pinfall.

Post-Match Thoughts: I was very impressed. It wasn’t the best wrestling match I’ve ever seen, but these two guys were able to successfully convince the crowd that the scariest guy on the show in Tama Ku is actually the good guy! I loved how these two had a No DQ match without completely destroying each other. They did the right amount of action around the ring, and they had the little kids in the audience completely sold on what was happening. This match was more for the kids than anyone else and was a refreshing change of pace given the two matches before it. This was a good match.

Overall Match Rating: Worth Watching!

Jazmin Allure vs GiGi Rey

Pre-Match Comments: I first saw Jazmin Allure on Mission Pro Wrestling’s Silver Bells. I thought she was a great on that card, so I can’t wait to see what she does in this match. I have never seen GiGi wrestle before but based on her entrance she appears to be athletic and moved well and confidently getting in the ring. It’s easy to see this is not her first rodeo. Should be a good match!

GiGi Rey won via pinfall.

Post-Match Thoughts: Not the cleanest match, but it was really good to see Jazmin back in action again. I think she needs to find some head kicks to add to her repertoire. If she watches an Ivelisse Velez match, that’s exactly what I’m talking about. She already does a lot of amazing things on her own, but there’s no hard-hitting move in this that gets the crowd into the match. The first half of the match was very quiet from the crowd. They weren’t nearly as engaged, but this may have just been a filler match in between the last match, which was really good, and the next match. GiGi may look confident getting in the ring, but she really didn’t do a lot inside the ring. I don’t know if she’s still new to the business or if she’s been doing this for a while but based on what I saw she needs a few more years before she’ll be doing some really cool things in the ring. She has the talent. Now she just needs to figure out how to use it.

Overall Match Rating: Worth Watching (note the exclamation point difference from the last match)

Ladies Night Out Championship Match
Renee Michelle vs Ivelisse (c)

Pre-Match Comments: Here we go!! This was my main reason for watching this show. This should be a good one. Judging by the entrances, I’m almost wondering if we might see a Face version of Ivelisse in this match. Renee Michelle seems to be more of a Heel (or bad guy) and even the crowd was more into Ivelisse before the match. A Face version of Ivelisse could be really cool. Same attitude but building up the energy with the crowd. Interesting!

Ivelisse won via pinfall to retain the championship.

Post-Match Thoughts: Ivelisse is such a veteran. In the middle of the match, she realized that the fans were not behind Renee and started egging them on to get a reaction. I love how she uses the ropes to get height on her jumps to make simpler moves look even more devastating. Her kicks are legit and her ability to get a rise from the crowd is even better. I’m really convinced it’s almost impossible for her to have a bad match against any opponent.

Overall Match Rating: Worth Watching!

Shane Taylor vs Ryan Davidson

Pre-Match Comments: The announcer sure talked this match up big. This is a rematch, and Davidson is apparently the longest-reigning Hurricane Pro champion in their 20-year history. Both guys are enormous!

Ryan Davidson won via pinfall.

Post-Match Thoughts: Those same awesome kids that I wrote about from the Tama Ku match clearly were out past their bedtime now. They were screaming some nasty things at Shane Taylor. I kept thinking “where are your parents!?” This was a good match. This match is worth watching. I really liked the spiral splash at the end. Seeing a guy as large as Ryan Davidson jumping off the top rope was really exciting. Both guys are solid performers! I’d watch them fight again for sure.

Overall Match Rating: Worth Watching!

Alexander Crowley vs Jared Wayne

Pre-Match Comments: Wayne has a lot of energy. Let’s see what he can do with all of that. No idea who either of these two guys are, so looking forward to seeing two new guys compete.

Jared Wayne won via pinfall.

Post-Match Thoughts: Wayne may have won this match, but Crowley made this entire match. He was solid from move to move. Wayne may have come “straight from the gym” but he may want to lift a few more weights while he is there because his muscle definition isn’t where it should be if he is always at the gym. All jokes aside, these guys did a great job and I’d definitely watch this again.

Overall Match Rating: Worth Watching

Hurricane Pro Cruiserweight Championship Match
Taya Valkyrie vs Miranda Alize (c)

Pre-Match Comments: This is my first time seeing Taya since she was released from WWE. I’m really excited to see her in action. I feel like it’s been a couple of years since I’ve actually seen her in action since she got such a raw deal on NXT. Miranda Alize is always a solid performer, so this should be a great match!

Miranda Alize won via pinfall to retain the championship.

Post-Match Thoughts: This was a very good match. This certainly deserved to be the main event. At one point in the match, Taya was standing next to the guard rail in front of a young boy and I’m pretty sure we all got to see him enter puberty staring at her.

Overall Match Rating: Must Watch

Overall Show Rating: Worth Watching

Final Comments: I will gladly watch another Hurricane Pro Wrestling event. It started off poorly, but really picked up from the Tama Ku vs Jordan Jensen match onward. I enjoyed seeing Jazmine Allure and Ivelisse in action on this card. Taylor and Davidson was a good match, and it culminated with a strong main event with two excellent wrestlers in Taya Valkyrie and Miranda Alize. I’m very glad that I watched this replay on Title Match Network and look forward to their next show.
